Mac User having lossless problems |
Is there a mac user out there who can walk me through downloading lossless files? The mac comes with FTP and I have downloaded shorten for mac as well. I'm not sure what to do after I click on the FTP link in the download section of the show I want. please help, I'm tired of trading the other format. thanks...

Re: Mac User having lossless problems |
first off get the program XACT for mac this will convert all flac and shn files to wav for you! Also get an audio player that will play flac files there are many out there including VLC media player which plays nearly everything... there is also cinthiune player and many others! You can just click the lossless download and not screw with the ftp it will download a zip of the flacs and just double click it and it will reveal the folder containing the files of the show! Then you can highlight all them open them with vlc to listen or XACT to convert and burn to cd for listening in the car or what have you... If you want to convert all the way to mp3 or aiff then get a program called SWITCH or just use ITUNES and both will convert from WAV > MP3 and MP3 > WAV as well as a slew of other formats aiff, mp4, ogg etc. etc.
I hope this sheds some light on what you are trying to ask!

Re: Mac User having lossless problems |
A good start by Tyler here...a few extra tips:
I wouldn't bother with any shorten-only programs - xACT handles SHN, FLAC and a few other formats. It can be downloaded here:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21952For audio players, I'd recommend Cog (
http://www.cogx.org) or Play (
http://sbooth.org/Play/).
I'll second Tyler's recommendation not to mess with the FTP download unless you prefer that method - your best bet is to just control-click the link for each file you want to download (zip files aren't available for all shows). If you're using the Firefox browser, you can install a plugin called DownThemAll so you don't have to click on each file.
Hope this gets you pointed in the right direction - post back if you need more help!
